Hurricane Irma Fundraiser

20 October, 2017

What a blast was our last summer event on the 100 Bogart Rooftop! We had over 150 people come out to our rooftop fundraiser to support the relief efforts of Hurricane Irma. Nick Tukmanian, one of the co-founders of 100 Bogart, had visited the island of Barbuda in 2015 and his memories have not left him since. Since the island of only 1800 people was 95% wiped out, they had the least amount of capital to recover from the devastating hurricane. In order to help out, he decided to host a fundraiser and food drive to raise funds for their recovery.

As we began to organize the event, we were delightfully surprised in the way the Bushwick community came together. We were so grateful for the donations that came from Kings County Brewer’s Collective (or KCBC Beer) who donated a keg, wine donated by Irving Bottle, ginger ale donated by Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, and Perrier sparkling water donated by Flavor Pill. In addition, Tony’s Pizzeria & Restaurant made a generous donation of 4 tables of delicious food for our fundraising party.

Spinning tunes all night were two DJ’s, the Gent and DJ Tekk. From 90’s hip hop and R&B to current Kendrick Lamar, their turn tables were the hottest music in Brooklyn. The weather was so nice and the sky so clear that it was the perfect end-of-summer rooftop party,…until next year.

We even got approval from Assemblywoman Maritza Davila and her Chief of Staff whom both made an appearance at the party! Their district office is also working with multiple non-profit organizations in the neighborhood to gather non-perishables to ship out to Florida and several islands in the Caribbean.

All in all, we raised over $2500 for the Antigua & Barbuda Consulate General as well as over 1,000+ individual items for our food drive! We hope to host more events in the future to give back to the community and the people that surround us. Cheers to our first fundraiser!
