Introduction to Buddhist Meditation

The goal of Buddhist practice is unconditional happiness - a goal that requires precise meditation and focused contemplation. To kick off our meditation programs at 100 Bogart, NYC monk Bhante Suddhāso will be leading a series of classes covering a wide variety of meditation techniques and explaining in detail the salient aspects of Buddhist philosophy that we can use to gain a clear understanding of the nature of our minds.

All levels of practitioners are welcome.

About Bhante Suddhāso:
Bhante Suddhāso is a Buddhist monk living in New York City. As a Theravāda Buddhist monk, Bhante Suddhāso practices meditation according to the original instructions given by the Buddha in the Pāli Canon – the oldest collection of Buddhist scriptures, which contains an enormous amount of very detailed and precise guidelines on how we can live our lives in a way that reduces our dissatisfaction and discontent. Bhante Suddhāso has studied under the guidance of some of the most important names in Western Buddhism, such as Ajahn Pasanno, Ajahn Amaro, Ajahn Vīradhammo, and Bhante Gunaratana. Ordained at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery in California, he was first trained in the Thai Forest Tradition, and has since lived at various Sri-Lankan monasteries in both rural and urban environments. A dedicated teacher, Bhante Suddhāso has taught to people of all different ages and walks of life, as well as college students of universities like Harvard, University of Mary Washington, and Suffolk County Community College. The co-founder of Buddhist Insights, a new platform using technology to build community and facilitate access to reliable monastic teachings, his work aims to convey Buddhist concepts and their practical applicability to everyday life.
