OFF Exhibition – FIT's Korean Student Organization
We are excited to share that The Korean Student Organization (KSOF) from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) held their 2nd annual OFF Exhibition for art and Design students right here in the 100 Bogart gallery space. Students from FIT, NYU, Parsons, Pratt and other schools were able to participate and showcase their work; themed 'Birth', the exhibition created an inspiring and provocative atmosphere surrounded by creativity.
The purpose of the exhibition was to give young Korean artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a public gallery as well as to become more familiar with how to do so. By utilizing a real gallery space, the students were able to get a glimpse of what’s like to setup a gallery and by extension, become more comfortable with the process itself.
We are proud to be the destination for events such as these. More specifically, we recognize the importance of giving proper attention to Korea’s culture and arts - Many are aware of Korea through the impressive development of its technology and electronics industries, but it is a country equally abundant in the cultural arts. The collection in the United States of East Asian art, Japan, and China are far more prominent than Korea. Yet the history of Korean art was very much prized by the Japanese and the Chinese.
In addition to perhaps gaining better insight into Korean Artists and Arts, those who attended truly embraced the theme of the exhibition - The intriguing artwork displayed by the several student artists kept the room alive and interesting. Passersby were allured by the young energy and the captivating artwork. The gallery could have not been more successful, and we are proud to be part of it!
Aside from their ongoing support and encouragement toward Korean Artists and Arts, The KSOF would also like to eventually give Korean students more exposure through Korean and New York’s newspapers. Ultimately, truly enabling and encouraging the students to break away from their comfort zones and stepping into the professional world.
